Burning Leaves

Campfires are a favorite feature of camping. Families, friends, and scouts of all ages may enjoy the spectacle of warmth, light, smell, and sound emitted from the fire. It takes skill to effectively start the flames, keep them alive, and properly put them out. A technique used to both start the flames and replenish them is to feed the fire kindling. Kindling can include, small twigs, thin pieces of shredded wood, and dead leaves and pine needles. Once the flame has caught effectively, you can begin to add more leaves to your fire. As the flames consume the leaves, a crumpling and crackling sound is made as they darken, curl up, and ultimately turn into ashes.
