Description

The rain pours down along the building's edge, cascading into the back alley where you now stand, rubbing your hands together for warmth and watching the dark clouds barely begin to break apart into blue sky. The sound of traffic passing by through wet streets and muddy puddles that splash all about forces you to huddle ever closer to the awning that keeps you safe and dry. There are some typical utilities around buildings used for dealing with rainwater. An eavesdrip is the width of ground around a house or building which receives the rain water dropping from the eaves. A rain gutter is a narrow channel which collects rainwater from the roof of a building and diverts it away from the structure, typically into a drain. A street gutter is a depression which runs alongside a city street, usually at the curb and diverts rain and street-cleaning water away from the street and into a storm drain.
