Description
Buddhist chanting is an important aspect of celebration and script memorization. Buddhist monks will chant to recite passages from sacred texts. As the chanting occurs, the monks may hit notes so low within the register, they begin to throat sing. Throat singing is a technique in which the singer permits air to move from the lungs, past the vocal chords, and out of the mouth. There are different Tibetan Buddhist chanting throat singing styles such as: Gyuke (originally: "rgyud skyad") - style with the lowest pitch of voice; Dzoke (originally: "mdzod skyad") and Gyer. The throat singing sound created by the monks is unique and unlike any other kind of chanting.
