Blade Running

The sounds of the future leave you frozen in a state of suspended animation. All around you, cybernetic lifeforms are being born and dying in the deep dark alleyways and damp, dimly lit streets of this electrified forest of metal and cold concrete. The density of metallic death overpowers your delicate sense of humanity, draining you of the last thoughts of happiness you had. Only the lonely road to isolation from your fellow human beings remains, as each face you see flickers faster and faster in your mind, materializing not as flesh and bone, but beaker and rubberized bone. Is it enough to know that you are human? Is it enough to feel the breath flowing in and out of you? You stop and stand, staring at your reflection in the window pane of a television store. Relief washes over you, seeing the sweat drip down your forehead when you notice a small crack on the side of your neck, a little spark in the rim of your eyeball.
