Black Grouse

This grouse is calling for a mate. His song is loud, bubbling and somewhat dove-like. There is often an answer from another grouse who has a cackling call. That would be a suitable female grouse calling for the same thing. In a little while she will take all responsibility for nesting and caring for the chicks, as is typical with gamebirds. The Black Grouse or Blackgame is a large game bird in the grouse family. It is a sedentary species, breeding across northern Eurasia in moorland and bog areas near to woodland, mostly boreal.
