Description
The breathtaking boundary between land and sea is home to a bounty of wildlife, all whistling and wailing into the soft morning wind as water wanders from the fern covered forest floor onto the sunny, salty ocean shore. Traipse between the trembling trees or tiptoe through cool tidal waters on this very magical and mysterious marker between the earthen and the aquatic. Shores are influenced by the topography of the surrounding landscape, as well as by water induced erosion, such as waves. The geological composition of rock and soil dictates the type of shore which is created. Sediment deposited by rivers is the dominant influence on the amount of sediment located on a coastline. Today riverine deposition at the coast is often blocked by dams and other human regulatory devices, which remove the sediment from the stream by causing it to be deposited inland.
