It is in Friedrichshain, now part of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, and has undergone several name changes in its history. It was known as Berlin Hauptbahnhof. The station has 11 tracks and 9 platforms. The trains rush to the platform and people flow out like a little ocean. As soon as the doors clear, new passengers hop into the train car and try to get the best seat possible as they head to their destinations. The station was severely damaged in the Second World War and completely rebuilt by the East German railway, the Deutsche Reichsbahn; in 1950 it was renamed Berlin Ostbahnhof. Its original name was Frankfurter Bahnhof.
