The beach is awash with the sounds of children and adults frolicking in the water in warm summer sun. The waves sweep swiftly onto the shores, as the high-pitched giggles anticipate the crashing of the next one. High above, seagulls hunt for signs of food and call to one another with urgent expectancy. A beach is a landform along the shoreline of an ocean, sea, lake, or river. It usually consists of loose particles, which are often composed of rock, such as sand, gravel, shingle, pebbles, or cobblestones. The particles comprising the beach are occasionally biological in origin, such as mollusc shells or coralline algae.
