Beach Day

Most of the people at the beach seem to be children and families having a fun day by the ocean. The little kids running around scream as they play with the sand and splash through the water. Some families play beach volleyball and frisbee and some people just toss around a football. A beach is a landform along the shoreline of an ocean, sea, lake or river and usually consists of loose particles which are often composed of rock. The particles comprising the beach are occasionally biological in origin, such as mollusc shells or coralline algae. A beach is an unstable environment which exposes plants and animals to changeable and potentially harsh conditions. Some animals burrow into the sand and feed on material deposited by the waves. Sea turtles lay their eggs on ocean beaches. Seagrasses and other beach plants grow on undisturbed areas of the beach and dunes.
