Description
The city's celebratory souls parade up and down the street and musicians serenade the scene as another lovely afternoon in this beautiful Belgian city passes by. Enjoy the spirited sounds of community cascading all around you with cheer and a true flavor for wholesome fun. According to folklore, the city got its name from a legend about a mythical giant called Antigoon who lived near the river Scheldt. He exacted a toll from those crossing the river, and for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo, who cut off the giant's own hand and flung it into the river. Antwerp was the first city to host the World Gymnastics Championships, in 1903 and hosted the Summer Olympics in 1920.
